There is one last hope for anybody still living on Earth, the researchers say. In the past, some have suggested that Earth’s orbit could be tweaked by arranging the fly-by of a nearby asteroid to tug at it. This method could potentially maintain Earth’s speed enough to keep it in a widening orbit, they say.

Do these doofuses actually believe that humanity in its current form will still be living exclusively on the earth 7.6 billion years from now?

Sounds reasonable to me… if this is a genuine vision of the future.

That is pretty funny, Rebecca. I figure if mankind doesn’t commit suicide, we will have left this planet behind within the next thousand years or so.

  4. Angus Dei Says:

Swinish, that future is now! LOL!

I’ve yet to see this one, Angus, but a friend raved about it constantly. It never got cinema release here, and its opening day in the US was something absurdly small.

It is remarkable how consistent people are in their philosophy. These are the same people who talk about the “rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer,” on the premise that wealth is static and must be shared out equally, while ignoring the fact that wealth is created and the poor these days live better than the kings of the past. They also ignore the fact that, despite their concerns about “sustainable” living, they ignore everything that sustains human life. What they mean by sustainable is unchanging. It is change in general that frightens them. If their jobs have disappeared, then laws must be written to tie the hands of those who made some innovation (usually the same kind of people that provided their jobs in the first place) that made their jobs obsolete because they don’t want to have to do the work to change in order to sustain their lives. They don’t like fossil fuels? Then they must legislate their ideas rather than do the work of discovering, developing and building the infrastructure to make the change. They dictate to others to do that, using tax money extorted from people rather than raising the capital to do it and persuading the people of the value of their product. They decry the profit motive, profits which would provide the capital needed for innovation and change, and resort to force. Now they extrapolate their primitive beliefs to include the entire universe, and call us arrogant flat-earthers. That such articles are written and published in all seriousness just beggars the mind.
