Blind Faith by Christopher Hitchens

Posted by tizona on March 24, 2008

The statements of clergymen like Jeremiah Wright aren’t controversial and incendiary; they’re wicked and stupid.

It’s been more than a month since I began warning Sen. Barack Obama that he would become answerable for his revolting choice of a family priest. But never mind that; the astonishing thing is that it’s at least 11 months since he himself has known precisely the same thing. “If Barack gets past the primary,” said the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to the New York Times in April of last year, “he might have to publicly distance himself from me. I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.” Pause just for a moment, if only to admire the sheer calculating self-confidence of this. Sen. Obama has long known perfectly well, in other words, that he’d one day have to put some daylight between himself and a bigmouth Farrakhan fan. But he felt he needed his South Side Chicago “base” in the meantime. So he coldly decided to double-cross that bridge when he came to it. And now we are all supposed to marvel at the silky success of the maneuver.

You often hear it said, of some political or other opportunist, that he would sell his own grandmother if it would suit his interests. But you seldom, if ever, see this notorious transaction actually being performed, which is why I am slightly surprised that Obama got away with it so easily. (Yet why do I say I am surprised? He still gets away with absolutely everything.)

Senate Keeps Focus on Polar Bear…

Posted by tizona on March 24, 2008

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said the Department of Interior has been “foot-dragging” on listing the polar bear as an endangered species and has asked the department’s secretary to appear before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), ranking member of the committee, however, said, “Unfortunately, the polar bear is simply a pawn in a much bigger game of chess.

“It has become clear that listing the bear as a threatened species is not about protecting the bear but about using the ESA to achieve global warming policy that special interest groups cannot otherwise achieve through the legislative process”

No Carville Apology for Judas Remark

Posted by tizona on March 24, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton adviser James Carville is refusing to apologize for comparing New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to Judas. Carville made the comparison to The New York Times after Richardson, once a member of former President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet, endorsed Clinton rival Barack Obama last week for the Democratic presidential nomination. Carville called it an “act of betrayal,” and pointed out that it came around Holy Week.“Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out (Jesus) for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic,” he said.

Richardson told “Fox News Sunday” over the weekend that he wouldn’t respond by getting “in the gutter like that.”

The rest.

Unkind Gaia

Posted by SwinishCapitalist on March 24, 2008

That Gaia - she’s so mean!

The celebratory edition of the German classic Rund um Köln has been cancelled due to snow conditions today.

The centenary of the race and she couldn’t send a little global warming? Talk about a lack of gratitude.

Some Damn Great News…Do we need it or what? Miami doctor breaks new ground in cancer surgery.

Posted by tizona on March 24, 2008

MIAMI (Reuters) - Dr. Tomoaki Kato had to remove a lot more than a cancerous tumor during an unprecedented operation on a 63-year-old Florida woman earlier this month.

To get to the tumor, which was buried deep in Brooke Zepp’s abdomen and threatened to kill her within months, the organ transplant specialist said he first had to remove her stomach, pancreas, spleen, liver and small and large intestines.

The organs were chilled and preserved outside Zepp’s body during a painstaking 15-hour operation at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

They were re-implanted in their normal position after the tumor — which was about 2 inches in diameter and wrapped around Zepp’s aorta and the base of two other arteries — was removed.

Kato said that never before have six organs been removed from a patient’s abdomen to allow doctors to go after a malignant growth previously considered inoperable because of its location.

“There’s nothing really simple here,” Kato, who trained as a surgeon at Osaka University in Japan, told Reuters on Monday. “I don’t want to say acrobatic but it’s kind of, in a way. It’s a very tricky operation.

“We’ve done pieces of this surgery many times but not the whole thing like this,” said the 11-year veteran of the University of Miami Transplant Institute who led a team of doctors that operated on Zepp.

Zepp was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. But Kato said the type of surgery he performed on March 4 ultimately could benefit people with more common diseases.

“There might be a lot of applications,” he said.

During the operation, Zepp, who was expected to be discharged from her Miami hospital this week, had many blood vessels replaced with artificial ones made of Gore-Tex.

“She came to me out of desperation,’ Kato said. “I’m really glad it worked out well.”

Doctor Kato. Bravo. You are a person that DOES THINGS, not talks things.

In Parts of Pa., Racial Divide Colors Election

Posted by tizona on March 24, 2008

Still not quite awake…but if one clicks here, one can read the article

One clue:

“Anytime we are in anything, they are going to try to inject race in there,” said Mounds, who sees truth in Wright’s statement that “racism is how this country was founded, and how this country is still run.” “When we look at the powers that be, the majority are white,” Mounds said.”

They”?? Could damn swear, that Rev. Wright is Black. Writes not to self..Junk current TV and laptop, purchase new models that have color…Ditch my ‘black and white’ versions of said products.

DAMN.. Stolen from Instapundit, told you I was NOT quite awake yet

UPDATE:

Added note: Mr. Mounds, in case you haven’t noticed, the “majority are white“, stems from the fact that THE “majority” IS “white“. What would you have the “majority” “white” do? Turn the nation over to the a 13% ‘minority‘, which are ‘Black‘?

Is this what you want, Mr. Mounds? Were it to happen, I doubt you’d be happy even then. How about we give you the WORLD? Maybe The Milky Way? You see Mr. Mounds even THAT name “The Milky Way” has racial connotations. I mean are you looking for something called, The Chocolate Way?

If you are, I’d suggest speaking with Ray Nagin, Mayor of the “Chocolate City” as he described New Orleans.

Mr. Mounds, I thought this nation was ONE nation “under God“…white, black, brown, red, yellow OR a mixture thereof. Evidently you do not, even when fighting for it, as you did do.

Further UPDATE:

Tiz a pity I waste my typed words, on someone with a very, very closed mind…For even if you were to read this…Your mind would not open. THAT Mr. Mounds is part of the problem, for I see you in the Harry Belafonte wing of thinking, where people like Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Ward Connerly, Clarence Thomas, Thurgood Marshall, The Tuskegee Flyers, The Buffalo Soldiers….are or were “house slaves”…NOT people with great minds and accomplishments, honor and bravery.

Apologize for getting carried away, for the more I read the article, they angrier I became…You may file this under RANT of the Day. The thinking and words of the likes of Mr. Mounds, Jeremiah Wright, Michelle Obama (pardon the play on words coming next) are getting under my skin!

Further, Further UPDATE:

Every step the above people did take…was a step forward….Mr. Mounds to bad you see things as stepping backwards. The audacity of you and people like you (see Rev. Wright and Michelle) to think yourselves still in shackles and chains, fresh off a boat, that your own people put you on.

That is still happening, Mr. Mounds….BUT you see, it is a vile cult called Islam, that is perpetuating this deed, but your people seem to be more then happy to aid the “vile cult”.

If Barack Hussein Obama wants a healing and a “bringing together”, THE ABOVE is where he and others must start. “Change” is wonderful, as long as the “change” heads and ends in the proper way, Mr. Mounds. The sooner YOU and others see that, the better off this ONE NATION UNDER GOD, will be.

Mr. Mounds…You wanted ‘frank and earnest’, by damn, I tried. Your repsonse, THE Mr. Mounds, in this nation?
