Casualties of the Nanny State?

Back in October we speculated as to what would happen if a couple of Democrats got caught on a stuck escalator…

…so along those same lines, here’s a quick quiz:

Okay, your car is stuck on the train tracks.  A train is coming.  You have two choices.  You get out of the car and run like hell or you call 911 to come and help you.  What do you do?

Imagine having reached a point where you’ve subcontracted out so much of the responsibility for your own care and welfare to Teh Gubmint that you evolve into a creature congenitally unable to look after yourself?

Tell you what, if we ever face a giant catastrophe, I know which side is going to come out in front. Just look at the way the Katrina flood victims sat there and waited for Teh Gubmint to come “save them” (and with a Democratic Governor and Mayor, GOOD LUCK with that) versus the Iowa flood victims last year (those hated heartland “flyover country” rubes) who took matters into their own hands.

    What would I do?

    a) Not drive onto the tracks unless there was clearance for my vehicle past the tracks.

    b) Get out of the car.

    c) Lodge insurance forms for the next century.

    d) Wouldn’t call 911 unless someone got injured.

But that’s what I get for having some common sense and not relying on the Government.

Well you could always squeal like a stuck pig for help, or get off your ass and do it yourself.

I love some of our voulenteer help agencies here in Oz, but unfortunately it helps breed that idea theat “someone else” will always be there.
Sometimes you just have to muddle through as best you can, as Winston says.

“If you are going through hell, keep going”
