UPDATE: For some reason (maybe being an old Carolinian myself), the following song by James Taylor keeps popping into my head these last couple of weeks. It’s that last verse that does it for me. Video & lyrics below the fold.
We were ring-around-the-rosy children
They were circles around the sun
Never give up, never slow down
Never grow old, never ever die young [...]
Oh, hold them up, hold them up
Never do let them fall
Prey to the dust and the rust and the ruin
That names us and claims us and shames us all [...]
Oh, yes, other hearts were broken
Yeah, other dreams ran dry
But our golden ones sail on, sail on
To another land beneath another sky

Ash’s dad indicated to me, that whilst any of Ash’s online friends wouldn’t be turned away, the family would prefer to keep the service for those who knew Ash in the ‘real’ world.

It’s a wise decision too bingbing, it’s better that the people who knew Ash in real life celebrate her life, as they knew her better than we all did.
The Ash we knew, well, she was different, she was ‘The Enforcer’, she was funny, clever, very intelligent, caring, sweet, insightful and witty. I could go on but you’d get bored.
I’ll be having my own wee service on Saturday, around 1pm, with a visit to the beach (Ash loved water!)
A red rose might find itself in the sea.
