“If human culture seems obsessed with sex lately, it’s nothing new. Archaeologists have discovered the oldest known artistic representation of a woman — a carved ivory statue of a naked female, dating from 35,000 years ago.
“The statue is notable not just for its symbolism, but for its style — particularly its sexuality.
“The figure is explicitly — and blatantly — that of a woman, with an exaggeration of sexual characteristics (large, projecting breasts, a greatly enlarged and explicit vulva, and bloated belly and thighs) that by twenty-first-century standards could be seen as bordering on the pornographic,” Mellars wrote in a commentary essay in Nature.”
I’m not surprised in the least.
“Scientists guess that it may have represented female fertility, or been related to shamanistic rituals and beliefs.”
I guess you could call “Beating the Bishop” a shamanistic ritual.
At least there has been some evolutionary progress by men…
So the biggest deficit since World War II, $58 billion, a turnaround from a $20 billion surplus just two years ago, a bill our grandkids’ kids will probably still be paying for, and the likely prospect this deficit will only increase is somehow seen as ‘nation-building’ by CNN. Admittedly, KRudd and the Duck are boosting some infrastructure, but cripes CNN, that’s one hell of an angle you’ve chosen there.
Still, we’ve come to expect this from them, haven’t we?
(PS I’ll put a pic up when I get home from work if ya’ll interested.)
First off a disclaimer, Most of what I know about Mr Toben comes from newspapers, and a look at some unsavoury websites that think hes great.
Hes the sort of bloke Id be inclined to spit on if he started his anti Semitic crap to my face, and didn’t stop when asked to. Hes lower than a snakes ballbag, so slimy slugs pour salt on him, a tosspot of the first order.
For those who are unaware there is a huge scandal in the UK over MPs of all major parties shovelling money at themselves through “expenses”. In some cases well over their actual pay, including some rather lucrative real estate shennanigans.
This scandal has been reported/brewing for over a week now, with even the PM Gordon Brown caught with some questionble claims.
Ive been following this mainly through 2 excellent websites, so anyone wanting more details should have a gander at these.
Up until today (so at least a week into the story) the focus has been on the Labour government ministers and their claims. Yesterday the first major story on the Tories (opposition) same abuse of the system came to light.
Guess when the ABC decided to run its first story (that Ive seen any major time devoted to) on the issue?
Then guess which party the member held up as a shameful example came from?
Then guess which party leader was shown apologising on behalf of everyone involved?
So if you guessed yesterday as number 1, Tory as number 2, and Gordon Brown as number 3 well done.
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is fucking awesome. This has to be the best goddam commencement speech ever!
“We Boomers were the children that the Second World War was fought for. Parents who had endured both war and the Great Depression devoted themselves sacrificially to ensuring us a better life than they had. We were pampered in ways no children in human history would recognize. With minor exceptions, we have lived in blissfully fortunate times. The numbers of us who perished in plagues, in famine, or in combat were tiny in comparison to previous generations of Americans, to say nothing of humanity elsewhere.
All our lives, it’s been all about us. We were the “Me Generation.” We wore t-shirts that said “If it feels good, do it.” The year of my high school commencement, a hit song featured the immortal lyric “Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today.” As a group, we have been self-centered, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, and all too often just plain selfish. Our current Baby Boomer President has written two eloquent, erudite books, both about..himself.
As a generation, we did tend to live for today. We have spent more and saved less than any previous Americans. Year after year, regardless which party we picked to lead the country, we ran up deficits that have multiplied the debt you and your children will be paying off your entire working lives. Far more burdensome to you mathematically, we voted ourselves increasing levels of Social Security pensions and Medicare health care benefits, but never summoned the political maturity to put those programs on anything resembling a sound actuarial footing.
In sum, our parents scrimped and saved to provide us a better living standard than theirs; we borrowed and splurged and will leave you a staggering pile of bills to pay. It’s been a blast; good luck cleaning up after us.”
Now, you may be asking, “Beef, you’re a Texan, so what’s with the governor of Indiana stuff?” Well, mom’s a Hoosier, and we still own several farms up there. We’re going up this summer, in fact. Can’t hardly wait.
So says Anthony Watts who has released a report on those US weather stations. You know, the ones he’s been blogging about regularly for the past few years.
First, of course, you need the appropriate subject matter.
Notice the scale. She makes the couch look like a prop in The Incredible Shrinking Woman. Seriously, I’d be surprised if this tiny little thing is even five feet tall.
Then you need to compose the photograph and get the light and pose just right. Oh, by the way, this is not safe for work.
This post is intended to outline the evil consequences of what, on the surface appear to be good and well intentioned ideas.
It will cover a number of areas, so bear with me as I hop from topic to topic. In addition it shouldn’t be seen as an out-and-out attack on the “left”, some of these ideas have been expanded on by the “right” as well.
I bet he didnt think his policies were evil either.
Hey, let’s let the Left keep loving Obama. Hehe, he’s just upped the Pentagon’s black budget! Ironic.
OK, so his stimulus package sucks, but in some respects he really is carrying on Bush’s work (hint: with Iraq won, the focus was always gonna shift to Afghanistan). Prez Change in many regards ain’t really so different. He’s getting away with what Bush could never have gotten away with, lulz. The Left are hypocrites a funny mob.
Dontcha just love how our Leftist media and all their little Obamaphile acolytes (AHAHAH!) have had kittens over this? Hehe, we eat chicken, cows and pigs (H1N5, mad cow, H1N1). What will they cry over next? Vegetables? Wait! Hasn’t that already been done re GM and/or pesticides? They’ve cried over the planet, already. What else will those progressives come up with to combat progress?
OK, so the BOE isn’t the Left, but really (???), it doesn’t sound like there are too many Righties there running the show.
The Bank of England stepped up its aggressive campaign to end Britain’s economic slump today by ordering a surprise £50 billion expansion of its radical scheme to jump-start growth by “printing money”.
And Gordon Brown’s Labor is doing their part to send England to hell in a hand basket.
The real cause of unhappiness with the Republicans was simply that they could not make a convincing case for conservatism to a changing electorate because so many of them were not acting as conservatives.
And just because I can. Liberals don’t own that song.
OK, so the two words start with the letter ‘e’, but the PP Boyz seem to have mixed up ‘economy’ with ‘employment’. Sure, they’re related but there’s a reason why there are two different words.
JFTR, PP Boyz, the economy might just be slowly be getting back on track thanks to investors like me who’ve been plowing in CASH for over a year now. Rudd’s so-called stimulus package (giving your own money back to you but come Tuesday, taxing you more again for the privilege all the whilst running us into a deficit that’ll take God knows how long to repay) had very little to do with it.
First funnyman in tow… let’s check out LeTan.Eek! I was gonna say boring boring boring et. al. But Aha! Kevin’s a neocon… doesn’t take long! 2nd post. Ha ha, Lataan.
Krudd’s a neocon? Hehehe.
Next comedian? Let’s go Loewenstein.
Aha! First of the rank. Room for debate in the Islamic Republic. Lets see what he has to say? Hmm, Antony, you coming round?
Mind you, why support Sri Lanka, he argues? Those poor Tamil errorists (sic).
UPDATE
Why does this bloke still have a job?
POUR enough blood, tears and testosterone (or oil) into the dry and dusty dunes of the Greater Middle East and you create the quicksand that’s been swallowing mighty armies for millennia.
OK. So he’s sentimental. He’s still a braindead buffoon. Just retire, Phil. Waaaay outta touch. Heh. I live in Korea and he’s still in Oz. I’m outta touch but… oh, oh, dear Phil.
UPDATE
Let me find another moonbat…
It’s gotta be the PP boyz right? And so we shall go to comments.
President Obama sends his daughters to elite Washington area private schools, not the plagued D.C. public schools, and yet he’s killed a program that allows four or more of his daughter’s classmates to attend the same school they do, though their parents can’t afford it. Thousands of D.C. area students have benefited from this scholarship program over the past ten plus years, test scores and subsequent student success proves that it works, and at a total cost of only $18,000,000.00/$7,500 per student (The putrid D.C. public schools cost over twice that amount per student). So, the question is, “Why?”
I’ll tell you why: Because Obama is in the pocket of the Teacher’s Unions (And every other leftist, anti-competition union), and Teacher’s Unions hate having a program like this that makes them look like the incompetent nincompoops that they, in fact, are.
Keep showing your ass like this, Mr. President, and you’ll be a one termer. Seriously, don’t stop.
“This afternoon, more than 1,000 students, parents, and concerned citizens gathered across from city hall to rally in support of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship program. A number of prominent D.C. leaders spoke, including former mayor Anthony Williams and former councilmember Kevin Chavous. But the most moving speeches were from the parents and students participating in the scholarship program.”
Basically, Obama’s still killing the program, but not kicking out the students already in it.
“But the Washington Post reports that the administration will now call for the scholarship program to be continued for students who are currently participating. If this happens, it will avoid the p.r. disaster of seeing disadvantaged children, including two of the Obama children’s classmates, pulled from their private schools. But it will deny current and future D.C. families the same power that President Obama and Secretary Duncan take for granted. “
Well, there’s the “Change We Can Believe In.”
The protestors:
Looks like an affluent group of privileged whites to me. /sarc
Obama’s pissing off his core constituency. Way to go, Prez!
Surely PETA-philes wouldn’t jump on the epidemic bandwagon just to push their own agenda?
Think again. An excerpt follows (personal musings in bold).
Well, the new swine flu epidemic may (Oooh, nice use of the qualifier – my dick “may” reach 12 inches as well) already have killed more than 100 people in Mexico, and you don’t have to ask us twice to point out what’s responsible for all these outbreaks of animalborne diseases, one after another. Factory farming, of course. (Despite no evidence other than “farms are bad, mmmkay”?)
We think that this billboard, which we’re erecting in San Antonio, Texas, sums it up: (Ive modified it slightly to add a bit more reality.)
And for the record MRSA hasn’t been linked by any responsible journal I know of to intensive farming. E coli has been around forever, and swine flu is a busted flush….
Cramming animals by the hundreds or thousands into gigantic, windowless sheds(Bullshit! – any large shed I’ve been in has louvres rather than windows as its cheaper than air conditioning)—in which the air is teeming with bacteria (Bugger how the swine flu is a virus then, eh? Back to basic biology for you, eco-loon.) and the pigs’ or chickens’ throats are burned by the accumulated waste (Why? Its not in the farmer’s best interest to have sick or diseased animals.)—is a recipe for spreading virulent diseases. Just last month, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof wrote two articlesabout the spread of deadly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus on pig farms.
No, Kristof isn’t psychic. He’s just paying attention—unlike the people at your local meat counter.
Bottom line: We can stop pigs from killing us if we simply stop killing them. (Now where’s the fun in that?)
Oh, and they are selling their pathetic “sea kittens” as plushies.
Well, with the holiday we had over here on Friday and tomorrow’s Children’s Day being a national holiday (go figure), it was a bit annoying having to front up for work today. Anyway, such is life. Barely a quarter of my adult students bothered turning up and whilst most of my kids did, I knew they weren’t going to want to do any work. They had sports last Friday, they have the day off tomorrow, half of them didn’t even have school today, and the ones who did just did more sports practice.
So I decided to buy them pizza. Not the expensive stuff like Domino’s but these cheap ones from a mob called Nanta Pizza that are about five Aussie dollars each… and actually pretty decent (for the price). Whilst waiting in the shop, the following picture caught my eye. I guess it’s trying to attract customers. I’m just not sure how.
