I know this is a bad thing, but am I evil if my first reaction was to laugh?

 Police at Ipswich west of Brisbane have charged a 21-year-old tattooist who is accused of putting an obscene picture on a customer’s back instead of the image requested.

  

So how bad could it have been?

The 25-year-old customer wanted a yin and yang symbol and a dragon…

 

Now what did he get instead?

.. but instead was given a 40 centimetre tattoo of a penis and a rude slogan implying he was gay.

Something like this perhaps?

 

..It is believed the pair had earlier been involved in an argument.

  

You think???

Police say the tattooist will appear in court next month charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one charge relating to the Public Safety Act.

  

So there you have it, dont piss off the man making the permanent markings on an area of your body you can’t see…

Downer calls for Taliban negotiations

At first glance, this is a particularly unpalatable notion, but perhaps the Realpolitik of the situation warrants such a change of strategy.

THE initial objective of the invasion of Afghanistan has been achieved and it’s time for a diplomatic settlement involving the Taliban and their Pakistani creators, says former foreign minister Alexander Downer.

In an article entitled “Our messy war” published in The Spectator ahead of the parliamentary debate on Afghanistan, Mr Downer said the initial military goal was to destroy al-Qaeda’s capacity to use Afghanistan as a base for attacks on the US and other western targets.

“That goal was achieved. Al-Qaeda was destroyed in Afghanistan. As time has passed there has been mission creep,” he said.

Mr Downer said the task now was apparently to improve the quality of democracy and security, but that was proving perilously difficult as Afghanistan had never been competently governed by an administration based in Kabul.

However, on the one hand we see reports of a decimated Taliban having endured a near decade-long “arse-kicking”. Their best commanders are either dead or captured and what’s left is literally a rag tag army.

Thus, why negotiate now? Rather, seizing the jugular (g’day, reader Carpe Jugulum !) would appear to be the more effective option in the long-run.

But then there are the reports of a wishy-washy US president who even after an Iraqi-style troop surge- which has arguably been a success, just like in Iraq - still appears to not really know what to do.

American Spectator’s Alfred S. Regnery:

Afghanistan is often called the “graveyard of empires.” It is also Barack Obama’s Achilles’ heel. He has nobody to blame but himself.

Afghanistan has little strategic value and the war is one of choice rather than necessity. Now, at the end of a wasteful and frustrating decade, our objective is to end the fighting and leave a measure of stability behind. But clarifying even this simple goal seems more than the Obama administration can handle.

That’s probably why Downer is calling for a deal. Regnery’s piece goes on to remind us that Afghanistan, hardly a nation, is but really a collection of tribes, rooted in the middle ages, and certainly not a prime candidate for nation-building.

Still, something doesn’t sit right. Even with Al-Qaeda taken care of over there, what’s to say they wouldn’t re-emerge – and quickly? A deal and/or pull-out would likely inspire Islamic terrorist forces around the globe. And just how much could you expect a “legitimised” Taliban to keep up their end of any bargain?

The Australian parliament is set to debate the Afghanistan War this Tuesday. Yet with the major government power-broker, Greens’ leader Bob Brown, not even having been there, it seems folly to have this debate just now even if both, generally speaking, the ALP and Liberals are committed to the war.

You’d think the best course of action would be to head the advice of the generals on the ground. Bob Brown flies in the face of this, however.

“We have to take what our army commanders are saying into account here but then I have letters from relatives of troops who are in Afghanistan or going to Afghanistan who do not want their loved ones sent to what they see as a hopeless war,” he told ABC Television.

A US debate over what step to take next is scheduled for December.

Faced with a White House war review due in December and decreasing public support for the war back home, the U.S. military is not in a position to hold back. The current phase of operations is geared to make a statement: drive the fight as aggressively as possible and rout the Taliban in their own backyard. Looking forward, commanders posit that improved civilian freedom of movement and a stronger government presence will be reliable gauges of progress. But it remains to be seen just what metrics will be enough to convince the Obama Administration that serious money and manpower should be poured into a conflict now entering its 10th year.

Whatever the powers-that-be decide, now is a good time for Western forces to strike hard while the iron is hot. One reason is purely military in nature: the Taliban is at its knees. The other reason is purely political in nature: Obama and other Western politicians appear to be at their knees.

This is curious for 2 reasons, shes only just announced families will be let out ASAP, regardless of their claims veracity, this should have freed up around 700 beds.

Now shes announcing the creation of 2000 new beds, thats an effective expansion of over 2700 places.  In addition there are 2 other sites, with unspecified numbers, that are available as well.

Now add the number of releases from detention as part of the normal process then just how big a wave of migration have they unleashed on Australia with their ideological and stupid reversal of the Howard regime?

So is there a reporter brave enough to buttonhole the new Immigration minister and ask for his estimates of numbers for the next 12 months?  Would they also enquire just what numbers Labour or the greens might consider a “crisis” for the wider community?

Julia and her band of ideologues have unleashed a tidal wave of people that will fundamentally change Australia for the worse.  I dont accept this is an “honest mistake” or that they “mean well”, this is a deliberate attempt to import a voting block and cement at least state government control for labor. They will cram the centres, and create a crisis that will “justify” the dismantling of Australias border regime. They are effectively devaluing the worth of Australian citizenship to the price of a people smugglers fare.

Australia without borders.

Well it appears its nearly official, Australia has effectively ceased to have borders.

In a major policy shift, the Federal Government is preparing to announce plans to release hundreds of asylum seekers from detention and allow them to live in the community while their applications for asylum are being accessed.

 

Many years ago, around the time of the Latham election I was having a conversation with a detainee about the likelihood of a Labour government opening the centres and releasing all the asylum applicants. At that time I told the bloke I thought it was extremely unlikely unless the greens held the balance of power. Fast forward a decade and here we are, right on schedule.

Every child released, effectively making turning up with a kid a ticket straight out of detention and into Australia. This will have the effect of seeing more women and children on the boats, at the moment its more single men.

Senator Hanson-Young says issues of employment and education are still yet to be worked out.

“Children who are of school age will need to be going to school. That’s one of the things that I’m quite strong on,” she said.

“In terms of working, some people may be able to, because they’re up for it. Other people are simply are not in a state to be able to work as yet … My understanding is that the Minister wouldn’t have made a decision on those work rules yet.”

“Some people are simply not in a state to be able to work”… So the greens will be pushing for open ended welfare straight off the boat…how..enlightened of them.

She says there will be a variety of different options for housing.

“Currently, of course, there are families and children housed in detention facilities at the moment in Darwin where they’re under lock and guard by 24 hour security, where their movement is restricted,” she said.

“Even removing that restriction will actually help a lot. Parents could take their kids down to the park, make them meals as they see fit.

Housing: “Just open the centres and remove the guards” seems to be her solution.

Do you think it will cause more asylum seekers: “no that’s not going to happen its a myth and simply not true”…

The absolute stupidity and/or evil of this airhead is beyond normal. Australia has a tolerant and thriving society because we accept, to a large extent, that government of whatever stripes are actually trying to “do good” by the majority of the population.

This decision will see refugee numbers increase by a factor of ten over the next 2 years, Im willing to place an even money bet on it.

This is an act of political bastardry unequaled in the last few decades. Julia and her party have NO mandate for this at all, Im willing to bet they would have lost the election if they had so much as hinted at this policy turn around.

The Left versus Islam?

Not really. Not yet, anyway.

The FBI arrests affirm an emerging terror alliance between American-based leftists, Islamic terror organizations, Colombia’s FARC, and Irish Republican groups.

However, the Koran’s Surah Al Ma’idah Ch. 5 V.32 states “that if anyone kills any other human being, whether it be a Muslim or non-Muslim, unless it be for murder or for spreading corruption in the land, it is though he has killed the whole of humanity… so killing any other human being…it is prohibited in Islam.”

But what if I, you, and/or the West is deemed to be “spreading corruption”? Considering we don’t adhere to the Koran, wouldn’t that be the case?

Chile Miner rescue.

Today marks a truly great achievement. The scale of engineering carried out to rescue these miners is amazing.

First the original drilling to find the men. Modern drilling can be extremely accurate in drilling hundreds of meters to hit precise locations underground. One of the keys to being accurate is not to “rush”. Drills that are pushed to hard tend to deviate from their intended paths, sometimes by dozens of meters .  The rescue team managed to pin down the location quickly, brilliant.

The second point about the drilling. The rescue borehole has achieved incredible speed and accuracy, the normal pace of drilling for a machine of this type is a few dozen meters a day at best, I can only assume the ground/rock where they are working isnt particularly tough going..

The installation of the reinforcing steel casing did have an element of risk, that’s where a bend of a few degrees in the shaft could have caused a jam, to  drill that deep that straight is incredible.

I hope the blokes being rescued are able to become wealthy from their story, at least wealthy enough not to return to mining.

The blokes involved in the rescue will have a story for the grandkids, theres talk of on of the ministers involved using the rescue to mount a possible presidential bid.

I can only compare the rescue to this one, carried out back in 1907, when a trapped miner was rescued from a flooded mine by a hard hat diver. An American future president was also involved.

First men out, brilliant!

Property developer makes heads explode.

A Geraldton property developer is getting a number of panties in a wad with his latest gimmick to sell a few acreage lots here in WA.

WA firearm laws have a few stipulations as to who can own a rifle, one of these is owning over a certain acreage of land.  The couple of acres is probably just enough to trigger the granting if requested…

Cue the wailing and gnashing of teeth, rending of garments and general butthurt from the “caring” members of society.

This bloke is a marketing genius, hes got himself front page publicity for his land development without spending a cent, plus a general murmuring of publicity every time someone winges about his offer.

We note that two Israeli soldiers have been convicted of using a Palestinian boy as a human shield. Does the same kind of scrutiny occur in the Palestinian territories when their folk do the same (and on a much larger scale)?

And speaking of pricks who use civilians as human shields, it’s good to hear the Taliban, thanks largely to the surge and all our fine soldiers, is “getting an absolute arse-kicking”. Indeed, they’ve been decimated.
