China (again): It’s not just your pets they’re killing.

An update to my post on this subject (read it here to get the background on this) over a month ago:

Heparin Likely Cut With Cheap Counterfeit Ingredient (“A child could tell you it’s counterfeiting”)

Bloomberg reports that indeed, the contaminant in the widely-used “American-made” drug Heparin which caused at least 19 confirmed deaths and hundreds upon hundreds of confirmed adverse effects entered “the system” in China.

March 20 (Bloomberg)Baxter International Inc.’s heparin was contaminated by a cheaper ingredient in China, that country said, confirming a finding from U.S. regulators probing deaths and allergic reactions linked to the blood-thinning medicine.

Tests showed traces of a substance known as over-sulfated chondroitin sulfate, the State Food and Drug Administration in Beijing said in a statement yesterday. The contaminant, a less expensive ingredient derived from animal cartilage, isn’t approved in the U.S. for medical use, said Janet Woodcock, head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s drug division.

U.S. regulators are investigating whether the ingredient was intentionally added to raw heparin from China. Adding the contaminant to raw heparin, the active component in the finished product, would have been cheaper than using the pure ingredient, according to the FDA.

Baxter and U.S. regulators have said allergic reactions may have been caused by raw heparin that came from China. Baxter’s raw heparin was produced by Scientific Protein Laboratories, which has plants in China and Wisconsin.

The contamination was present in the powdered raw heparin purchased by Scientific Protein’s plant in China, said Robert Rhoades, a pharmaceutical consultant with Becker & Associates in Washington, speaking for Scientific Protein. The company wasn’t aware of the contamination at the time because it wasn’t detected in the tests Scientific Protein conducted on the powder provided by suppliers, he said.

Scientific Protein purchased raw heparin from consolidators and refined it further before sending it to Baxter, which uses the ingredient to make the finished drug, Rhoades said. The consolidators obtained the ingredients from workshops in China, he said.

And yes, this particular “workshop” in China is one of many which the FDA has never managed to inspect. As I noted in my earlier blog piece, China has an estimated 80,000 chemical companies, and the FDA doesn’t even know how many sell ingredients used in drugs consumed by Americans or on-sold to other countries. Meanwhile, pharma is increasingly moving production to China.

The FDA has now received permission from the State Department to put eight staffers in China, but the plan is said to be awaiting authorization from the Chinese government.

As Michael Santoro, author of ‘Ethics and the Pharmaceutical Industry’, states, “China is not ready to be a chemical manufacturing hub for the United States and the rest of the world. There’s far too great a safety danger. We’re getting too many safety signals in recent months. This isn’t a catastrophe waiting to happen. This is a catastrophe that is happening.”

(Update) The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times are also now reporting on this:

Citing interviews with researchers in the U.S. and China, the New York Times reports that the contaminant was likely made in China from animal cartilage, chemically altered to act like heparin, and added intentionally to batches of the drug’s active ingredient.

“A child could tell you it’s counterfeiting,” Jawed Fareed, a professor of pathology and pharmacology at Loyola University Chicago who is conducting his own investigation, told the Times. “This is a deliberate act of chemically manipulating a heparin-like substance and mixing it with heparin to increase the yield.” The chondroitin derivative is cheaper than heparin.

So once more I will repeat:

Message to big Pharmas: Forget this ‘lowest bidder’ shit. Get the f#&k out of China.

Class: I’m Trying to Do My Part

1) Men ought to wear hats.

If you’re a cowpoke from Texas, a top-of-the-line George Strait Resistol; if you’re a city slicker, a nice fedora will do.

2) Men ought to wear suits.I go with the traditionally cut pinstripe, but a vest can add a lot to the right look.

3) Men ought to know their footwear (Why do you think I read The Manolo?)

Wingtip shoes don’t go with cowboy hats, so I have tastefully chosen simple, black Justin Ropers. With a fedora – and the right level of confidence – one could even pull off spats.

Oh, and a nice cologne is positively required: I happen to like Safari now, but I used to wear Polo.

Let this be a lesson.

Joke of the day…

Two old ladies are outside their nursing home, having a drink and a smoke, when it starts to rain.

One of the old ladies pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over the end and continues smoking.

Maude: What in the hell is that?

Mabel: A condom. This way my cigarette doesnt get wet.

Maude: Where did you get it?

Mabel: You can get them at any drugstore.

The next day, Maude hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms.

The pharmacist, obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of strangely, (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but very delicately asks what brand of condoms she prefers.

“Doesn’t matter Sonny, as long as it fits on a Camel”.

The pharmacist fainted.  🙂

Ted FUCKING Nugent on “The Right to Keep and Bear Arms”

Set aside sixteen minutes to listen to this MP3 interview of Ted FUCKING Nugent on Joe Pags’ (A Texas conservative radio show host). The subject: The Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Ted uses much of the same logic I use – and almost the same words – when I discuss the subject.

Keep: Have ownership of, and control over.
Bear: To be equipped with while traveling.
Arms: Guns and ammunition.
Infringement: ANY limitation placed upon a right.

Only a shyster could make the ~scarequote~ issue ~/scarequote~ into something complicated.

Rock on, Ted.

No Wonder Hillary had No Comment on Wright

Here’s Wright and Bill Clinton on, of all possible dates, September 11, 1998:

clintonwright2.jpg

According to Ben Smith at Politico, Hillary was there too. Via KJL at The Corner.

So, in a sense, Obama is right about Wright: He’s not really a marginal character, but fairly representative of what passes for preaching in black congregations. I find this more than just a tad problematic.

FOX News Poll: Both Clinton, Obama Tie McCain in Matchups…Yep the old 900, BUT Nothing sticks to Hussein…Nothing.

In head-to-head matchups both Democratic contenders essentially tie Republican John McCain. Hillary Clinton has a slim advantage over McCain — 46 percent to 43 percent. While McCain has a razor-thin edge over Barack Obama — 44 percent to 43 percent, according to a FOX News poll released Thursday.Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from March 18 to March 19. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

This son-of-a-bitch, seemingly could OR would get away with saying and preaching the same fucking things, as his anti-American, anti-Semite friend, the Rev.

Fox News

DAMN! I forgot, anti-White, also.

FOX News Poll: More Than Half Believe Obama Doesn’t Share Views of Pastor Wright

Fifty-seven percent of Americans do not believe Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama shares the controversial views of his former spiritual mentor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, while about one in four (24 percent) believes he does share Wright’s views. And a sizable minority has doubts about Obama because of his pastor’s comments, according to a new FOX News poll.

AND yet…same article….

All in all, Americans think your choice in friends says a lot about you: Almost 7 of 10 say they think the people you choose to be your friends reflect on you and your values. And 39 percent say your friends reflect on you “a lot.”

Is this what is known as a dichotomy?

Finding Weak Spots in Buildings, Bodies and Statues

popular-science.jpg

David’s Weak Spots: Michelangelo’s David, analyzed by the new Scan and Solve software Photo by Members of the Spatial Automation Laboratory, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Florida International University have developed a technique that enables them to identify the weak spots in a structure from afar.

The program they developed, Scan and Solve, uses 3D data of an object to predict where it is most likely to fracture, and how its faulty spots will be affected by outside forces such as gravity or other forms of strain.

The team tested the software on one of the most famous sculptures in the world, Michelangelo’s David, and the results of the program matched previous analyses of the statue. David has already incurred damage from cracks, and Scan and Solve “predicted” those weak spots. The idea, though, is that the program could be used to identify trouble areas in artifacts or statues or structures that have not yet begun to break down, giving engineers a chance to address those potential problems before serious damage sets in.

In the future, the researchers say the technique could be combined with medical imaging technology to help doctors pinpoint weakness in a patient’s bone structure.

Hey, Obama! Check this out…Don’t worry your mouthpieces, from Jeremiah to the MSM, will knock it down as a Bush “ploy”.

Iraqi Documents Show al-Qaida Ties

A much-publicized report released by the Pentagon last week details the extensive ties between the regime of Saddam Hussein and a wide variety of international terrorist organizations, including Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida.

“Despite their incompatible long-term goals, many terrorist movements and Saddam found a common enemy in the United States,” the report’s authors at the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) state.

But instead of reporting on this conclusion, most of the media accounts have focused on a single sentence that appears in the executive summary, stating that the report’s authors found “no smoking gun” or “direct connection” between Saddam’s Iraq and al-Qaida.

The United States Joint Forces Command, which commissioned the report from IDA, provided reporters late last week with a CD containing nearly 2,000 pages of supporting documents that purportedly formed the basis of the conclusions authored by Lt. Col. Kevin Woods and James Lacey in the 94-page redacted summary that initially was leaked to the press.

Kenneth R. Timmerman/Newsmax

You see, Hussein…’THEY’ already have…and that’s from the start….”no smoking gun“, NO “ direct connection“. YOU wouldn’t believe it, if told directly by Osama or Zawahiri, now would you, Hussein?

Just ask Jeremiah, he speaketh the truth…”chickens” and “roosting”. God Damn, America and Israel, huh?

Pity the monks of Tibet who dare to hope that anyone will come to their aid

Rod Liddle is appalled by the appeasement of China, a country that now combines the most oppressive aspects of state Marxism with the most brutally rapacious aspects of capitalism.

I can’t remember what sort of foreign policy we have right now. When New Labour was elected we were told it would be an ‘ethical foreign policy’. A year or so later, Robin Cook altered this to a ‘foreign policy with an ethical dimension’, which is a rather different thing. I assume it is now something like ‘a foreign policy with no ethical dimension whatsoever’ or maybe, since about five years ago, ‘a vigorously unethical foreign policy’. In this, I don’t suppose we are very different to most other nations and one should at least be glad that the pretence otherwise has been long dropped. But watching those stolen images smuggled out of the fires of Lhasa this week, you do hope that the vestigial tail of a conscience is being tweaked somewhere within our government.

Know what you mean, bloke.

Here in the U.S. we must protect Wal*Mart, among others. Our politicians Right or Left have vested interests, in money…Money always trumps people. Even though George Bush has tried, remember these words…”Bush Lied, People Died“.

In other words..Ya’ can’t win, for losing. Pity, it is.

U.S. Elections: The View From Paris

In the last week, Obama’s problems with his pastor have received considerable coverage, but in general the French media seems to think that his speech yesterday was a success in “calming the tempest.” It was notable that many of the headlines referred to the issue in words similar to “Fox News vs. Obama,” indicating that the French MSM felt that Obama was being attacked primarily by the “right-wing” media and blogs. The French, on the whole, clearly prefer Obama to both Hillary Clinton and John McCain, but this seems to be very much an emotional reaction based on the idea that having a “Noir” as president is something special. Obama’s rhetoric on change also resonates — similar rhetoric was a mainstay of last year’s French presidential campaign — and some note has been made of his international past.

Really shouldn’t have wasted the webthingy space on this….BUT since I have…Who Gives a shit? When you French have the balls to clean up your Islamist problems, then and only then, will you be taken seriously.

It is like this, your past record in dealing with things like saving your nation, ain’t been that great, know what I mean? Just keep producing those white flags and STFU.

Obama and McCain in crossfire over Iraq

“Just yesterday, we heard Senator McCain confuse Sunni and Shi’ite, Iran and al Qaeda,” Obama said.

“Maybe that is why he voted to go to war with a country that had no al Qaeda ties. Maybe that is why he completely fails to understand that the war in Iraq has done more to embolden America’s enemies than any strategic choice that we have made in decades,” the Illinois senator said.

McCain senior adviser Mark Salter said a U.S. pullout from Iraq would allow al Qaeda to claim victory and to pretend that this would not happen is “foolish supposition.”

He added: “Iran, which trains Shi’ite extremists and is known to arm and equip Sunni extremists, a fact Sen. Obama is apparently unaware of, will also view our premature withdrawal as a victory.”

Hussein Obama, your complete ignorance is your strength. You had best turn preacher, for you one day…with a tad more disrespect, venom and anything anti-America, is what Rev. Wright has groomed you and Michelle for.

You are a typical Leftist..Blame America with the NOW knowledge that your namesake in Iraq, had minimal weapons…BUT did have ties to Islamists…elsewise, why did he house them? That, Hussein has been proven. Were those Islamists there for tea, maybe?

OH and your namesake also murdered millions…Sunni AND Shia. Think, if you can “mass graves” and an eight year war, with Persia….BUT then, you don’t give a damn about those that perished and that, that happened…As I said, typical Leftist. Bitch, but no DO!
