When I was fourteen, my parents sent me to an old lady in town for private art lessons every Saturday morning. While we painted, we listened to opera on the radio out of Dallas (I can’t remember the exact company, or the radio station now. Possibly they don’t exist anymore). But that generated a life-long love of opera, and even though I am mostly ignorant, I can cite specific arias I love the best.
Also, to immortalize my first art teacher’s name on the internet, her name was Jessie Johnson, and may God bless her for her gifts to me.

I was blessed to have worked for Prof. Jose Maceda and his wife, Madelaine. I didn’t care until a friend can’t stop telling me who he was.
To me, it was as simple as I am a researcher and a student and he was just another researcher and a teacher. I listened to Madelaine play the piano for hours everyday. I heard great music come to life. I just “inked” his compositions – my job.
I know nothing about musical compositions but I knew I was listening to a great pianist and working for a brilliant composer.
I called their house “the butter, jam and toast house”.

Bjorling had a glorious voice as well. I’ve got a copy of him doing the duet from “The Pearl Fishers” lying around at home somewhere…
(I don’t know if that’s covered in the videos you linked to because I don’t have ant speakers here so I never bother clicking through on videos or mp3s at work)

#3 The duet from “The Pearl Fishers” is one of my favourites. I’m no opera expert or anything, but in the best tradition of ordinary joes everywhere, “I know what I like.”
