Architect Paul Murdoch says that the crescent shape comes from the hijacked airplane breaking the circle where it crosses the upper crescent tip. The flight path then continues down to between the crescent tips where Flight 93 crashed. (That’s right: the crash site is the star on the crescent and star flag.)
Along the flight path are to be placed 44 translucent blocks, equaling the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists:

I admit, I’ve had my doubts that this memorial was really intended to reflect the crescent and star of Islam. But even if it’s just coincidence, it’s enough of a coincidence coupled with the objections of the Flight 93 survivor families to warrant a different design. There should be no hint of Islamism in the design, none whatsoever, even if it’s just accidental. Including the terrorists’ deaths with the passengers was the deciding factor for me. They were murderers. They should never be remembered, let alone honored by being included in the design.

I propose a Star of David superimposed on a Cross.

What about a simple, unadorned plaque that says FUCK YOU TERRORIST BASTARDS?

I believe the memorial site should be %100 Patriotic and of American Origin only. The site should be configured to resemble, from the sky, an American Bald Eagle – the American Symbol of Freedom and Justice. This Eagle, with wings-curved inward, should be embracing the crash site, thereby denoting the center of the “Rise to Freedom” which all the Heroes of Flight 93 embarked on at that moment. The Eagle’s embrace would indeed signify the Rise to Freedom from the ashes, just as with the mythical “Phoenix Bird” that this site should seek to realize. This place should be appropriately called “Flight 93 Freedom Field” and should be historically preserved, under federal law, until the end of time on this planet. If anyone would like to contact me about my graphical ideas or designs for this proposed memorial configuration, please do not hesitate to contact me via the publishers of this weblog.
God Bless America & God Bless Flight 93
