Last one for me…Bush Heckler Arrested After Punching Wheelchair-Bound Girl

A man heckling First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna outside the 92nd Street Y was arrested after he punched a wheelchair-bound girl whose parents had told him to shut up, authorities said Wednesday.

German Talis, 22, was shouting obscenities at the Bushes, who were leaving the building Tuesday, when he crossed paths with Wendy and John Lovetro and their daughter Maureen, 18, who has cerebral palsy.

They had been in the audience to hear the Bushes talk about their children’s book, “Read All About It.”

“He began yelling about Iraq and Iran at Jenna Bush. She was waving at the crowd. I told the guy, ‘What are you doing? Shut up. This is about a child and books,’ ” said John Lovetro. “He was unperturbed. I said, ‘Get out of here! You’re being a moron!’ ”

The next thing he knew, Talis was allegedly punching Maureen, a fan of the first lady since meeting her in 2004.

That’s it? Arrested? No one in the crowd, nor the entire crowd, beat this cowardly bastard into a state of coma?

Palestinians: Carter Achieved Nothing. No Shit!….

….BUT, I beg to differ. He did show the entire world, what a complete stupid asshole and a gullible one at that, he is.

Recent talks between former president Jimmy Carter and a militant leader failed to make much of a difference in Gaza, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki said Wednesday.

For the fallen.

I’ve never been to any memorial service on Anzac Day. Perhaps I’m a rare case, but I have no military connections in my family for at least three generations. If my grandfathers had uncles or brothers who served, I never heard about them.
As a schoolboy I studied a play called The One Day Of The Year. It was written in the 60s, at a time when Anzac Day was out of favour, and showed the real ceremonies of April 25 as gambling and watching old Diggers drink themselves into a stupor. The background to the Gallipoli campaign itself is far from inspiring. The Turks were well prepared for an attack, alerted by the British navy presence in the region; if Churchill hadn’t led the fight against Hitler 20 years later, he would be remembered only for the fiasco that was the Dardanelles campaign.
So what is Anzac Day to me now? My views have changed considerably in the last few years. I’m more aware now of the sacrifice made for me by men and women who never knew me.
As most of you know, I’m a member of site called RedBubble. It’s a site that celebrates artistic freedom in various forms. Some members would express that freedom by photoshopping George W Bush and John Howard into Mickey Mouse ears and swastika armbands; so be it. But that freedom didn’t just fall out of the sky. It was paid for, over generations, in blood and lives.
Political caricature was not an option in Iraq under Saddam.
The Nazis condemned anything outside their narrow definition of art as decadent, and burnt books.
For Stalin, cutlural policy meant telling Prokofiev how to compose music.

Lest We Forget

Today is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand, the day that commemorates the bravery and honour shown by the men who enlisted in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps to fight in the Great War (World War I). It is a day of commemoration, a day to honour the military, a day to remember those who have been lost, and a day in which many take the opportunity to pay respect to the men who died to keep Australia free.

Brave Men, All, and so on this day we say to the memory of those men, their families, and those who survive them, Lest We Forget.

To further remember, enjoy this powerpoint (all files are the same, except for the inclusion of sound.)

The ANZACs deserve our respect. To celebrate the Australian way, have a shot of rum in your coffee this morning.

Student in Wheechair Faces Assault Charges for Running Over Classmate’s Toe

AURORA, Colo. — A high school student who uses an electric wheelchair faces three misdemeanor charges for allegedly running over the toe of another student at school.

Joshua Martinez told television station KDVR-TV Wednesday that he received a summons alleging assault, battery, and reckless endangerment for the incident at Rangeview View High School in the suburb east of Denver.

Martinez said he does not remember the incident. Aurora police could not immediately provide additional information. A spokeswoman for Aurora Public Schools said she could not comment, citing student privacy.

A police report obtained by the station quotes a school resource officer as saying Martinez sometimes had been reckless in operating his electric wheelchair, zipping around corners without slowing.

Martinez told the station he uses the wheelchair, which resembles a mobility scooter, because of a form of cerebral palsy. He said does not go around purposely running over people.

“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening
we will remember them.”

Spot stole the second half of this post, but the first half is, “Hallmark, eat your heart out.”

“The Centers for Disease Control has designated April 2008 “STD Awareness Month.” Citing data that one in four Americans has a sexually transmitted disease, the agency is urging health care providers to distribute pamphlets, hang posters, and e-mail colleagues to raise consciousness about the importance of sexual health. With more than 19 million new cases a year, however, the CDC is going to need some help getting the word out.”

One in four? 25%?! Can that possibly be correct?!?!?!

Jesus H. Rodriguez, you have better odds playing Russian Roulette!

I really miss the ’70’s. Sure, the fashion and music sucked, but my little hippy chick girlfriends never gave me any STD’s. Sheesh.

Well, this program ought to help:

A Senator, a journalist and an aircraft carrier.

The Senator was John McCain, the journalist was P J O’Rourke, and the carrier was the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Just in case anyone was left a little disturbed by those David Firth cartoons, here’s something by Bruno Bozzetto.

There are two animations from his Fantasia spoof Allegro Non Troppo that stick in the memory. The saddest of all was the derelict house and the cat. If you can watch that without shedding even a single tear, trust me, you have no heart at all.

This is the other most memorable segment.
