Everything You Always Wanted to Know About ANWAR…

…but the Democrats are afraid you’ll ask.

ANWAR in Alaska overlaid on the lower forty-eight states:

Alaska, USA, Coastal Plain

Alaska, USA, Coastal Plane

ANWAR is orange, the coastal plain, where we want to drill for the oil we already know it there, is yellow.

Here’s the pic the Democrats and eco-tards (But, I’m being redundant, and am repeating myself) always show to exhibit why we shouldn’t despoil this pristine wilderness:

ANWAR, Glorious ANWAR

ANWAR, Glorious ANWAR

Of course, no reasonable American would want to ruin that view with oil rigs. Problem is, this is what the coastal plain looks like:

Desolate ANWAR Coastal Plain

Desolate ANWAR Coastal Plane

Not only that, but the section of the hundreds of thousands of acres of coastal plain we want to drill on is… a couple of thousand acres.

I say fuck it. Let’s drill the son of a bitch. Someone alert McCain, because he’s an ignoramus about ANWAR.

UPDATE: Plane/Plain. Whatever. English is an idiotic language.

    Drill it.

Lessen the reliance on the Middle East and work on developing other technologies at the same time, and then eventually we can leave the Middle East to it’s own religiously based hellholes.

And sell more arms to Israel. They need some friends.

Quite frankly its low lying costal swamp looking crap to me. And as a % the area “affected” is somewhere around the 5% mark. Drill the fucker!!!

  3. bingbing Says:

Would have our grandfathers even been having this debate?

  4. Nick M Says:

My first reaction was – bloody hell I knew Alaska was big… It’s huge.

Little known fact. In the UK (relatively very densely populated though it is) it’s something like 12% of land that is built upon. That’s it. No imagine the howls of outrage if it was suggested increasing that to, say, 20%? Yet that would still leave 80% of this country as countryside or as US friend once put it, “that stuff you drive through to get to the mall”.

  5. Angus Dei Says:

Nick, I always liked this comparison, via Rush Limbaugh.

If you took every family on the planet and put them all in a single neighborhood with average suburban population density, that neighborhood would fit in France… or Texas.

  6. Charlie Says:

I had no idea that it was for ‘conservation reasons’ I always thought that the reason that oil wasn’t drilled anymore in the US was money? I assumed it was just cheaper to have other people, paid far less, in another country dig it up than at home

It is the same in the UK, we have loads of coal, tin, iron, lead, zinc, gold etc still in the ground, it just isn’t worth the cost of digging it up anymore, it is far cheaper to import it.

  7. spot_the_dog Says:

Hey cool, Alaska is even more sparsely-populated than Western Australia!

Alaska: 670,053 people in 591,004 square miles = 1.13 people per square mile

WA: 1,959,088 people in 976,790 square miles = 2.0 people per square mile.

Why, Western Australia is full-on crammed to the gills with people compared to Alaska. No wonder our government here keeps knocking back new development proposals in the interests of “preserving the environment” – There’s barely any untouched land left!

Seriously, though, I’m sure glad WA set up most of its oilfield development early on. As an example, Barrow Island, developed in the 50’s. No way on God’s green earth would that have ever been approved in today’s socio-political climate. Amazingly, it’s still a Class-A Nature Reserve and has hardly been “rooned” by the activities on it.

Go ahead, Yanks. Drill Alaska. You can lessen your dependence on foreign oil, and that can only be A Good Thing. And besides, it’s not like you all are doing much else with it anyway!

  9. Angus Dei Says:

Jesus X. Menchaca, Spot; WA is fucking HUGE!

  10. spot_the_dog Says:

Yep, Angus… mine is bigger’n yers!
    Heh.

Nobody can beat a Texan ego.

(Leftards don’t have egos, they have pretensions.)

  12. spot_the_dog Says:

Mythus: Give me a good old Texas ‘ego’ over a Lefty ‘pretension’ any old day.
