This is even better than I expected, but the bounce is far more dramatic than the mere numbers suggest.
“McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican’s biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.”
So, from just before the convention to after the convention – the poll was conducted entirely after the convention – McCain has gone from -7% to +4%, an 11% gain.
I’ve always expected that Obama would lose the election quite safely, but with numbers this bad this early – Dems are almost always ahead at this point – we could now see a meltdown of epic proportions and a McGovern-scale blowout.
