UPDATE #5: The Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter which is now caring for Sam and other koalas that were burnt on 7 February 2009 now have a website with more great photos of and information about Sam the Koala, and they’ll be keeping it updated.  They are also, of course, looking for help in caring for her and the many other animals they’ve taken in.   http://www.samthekoala.com.au/

    That photo is spreading. It was on the homepage of Naver, a Korean search engine/homepage/thingy a few hours back. I was showing a student video of the firestorm.

    I’ve mentioned to quite a few students just what’s been happenening (although they already all know about it from the news) and have described many of the aspects of a firestorm. Jaws have dropped – put it that way.

    After 3 months in Australia ,I have arrived back in Spain. Because my family have the house in Melbourne and the bush farm in Myrrhee(between Benalla/Wangaratta),I have shared the anxiety and been tuned to 774 ABC.It was horrendous on black Saturday for human and animal life.Between us we have donated but I would like to send financial help now .I am usually in Oz for Jan-march and would also like to volunteer practical support when there.I am a retired nurse and care for the abandoned dogs(100) here in Spain.Everyone is moved by the videos of Sam,Ash and all others.
