Afghan Immolation

Something for our feminists to consider.

I’ll let the article speak for itself.

Shocking stuff which does get reported on from time to time.

However, does anyone else find it a bit sneaky (to say the least) how these societies are described as ‘conservative’? Oppressive, patriarchal, something like that, but in this day and age the term ‘conservative’ is very misleading.

Don’t burn yourself,” she said, lying on her hospital bed. “If you want a way out, use a gun: it’s less painful.”
this statement leaves me speechless. how awful that that is what they think is their fate.
and i say to all those feminists out there.. where the hell are you?

  3. thefrollickingmole Says:

The modern feminist movement appears to believe highlighting this oppression would somehow distract from thigs like childcare/wages/glass ceilings and other crap.

In reality it hurts them by being exposed as 2 faced.

  4. Dminor Says:

I guess feminism is all too commonly just a facet of general political correctness and Leftism. Whilst it remains so it will never criticise a non-Western culture, no matter what barbarism goes on.

  5. Gramfan Says:

The feminists haven’t go the guts to take on Islam, let’s face it.
It’s as simple as that, plus as Dminor says there’s the PC element as well.
I think they are a disgrace.

How awful must your life be if you would even contemplate such a thing? Utterly unbearable I would imagine.

Anyone else seen that movie “Osama”?

Gives you some idea, but I think it is possibly worse in some areas.

  6. Dminor Says:

Haven’t seen the film yet, Gramfan, but was intrigued enough to look up some customer revies at Had to stop after this one, though. Unbelievable. (Copied and pasted, so all grammatical errors are from the original).

I would have to say this is a piece of this film that it is certainly a piece of pro-Bush propaganda. While I did find it well acted with a great dose of beautiful cinematography don’t make up for the obvious political bias. The film is little more an excuse to show the inhuman awful conditions of a legitimate eastern government on its own citizens and why we western cultures illegitimately occupied Afghanistan submitting the Afghans the western philosophies of free speech and female rights. I would have like to have seen more of the misunderstood Taliban regime in Afghanistan, their views of oppression, starvation, historical destruction and brutality were not equally represented in the film. The Western atrocities of building schools, freeing the media and liberating the women were not shown. In this sense the film is very much over simplistic look at what we Westerners would consider an evil regime. As another reviewer aptly said I would watch this film with a careful eye especially for my fellow progressives.

Why do I suddenly have the urge to kill ‘progressives’?

Whoever wrote that has to be taking the piss, right??

  8. Gramfan Says:

Drats – the net dropped out just when I hit the submit button so I hope my post doesn’t show up twice cos I don’t remember it verbatim.
Dminor, yes I feel the same about progressives.

“the misunderstood Taliban regime”,,sure. A bunch of primitive, misogynistic murdering thugs.
Quite honestly the thought of Bush never entered my mind at any point during the film.

Just looking at those poor women and children kept me focused on their plight. It was human rights – not politics to me.

either he was taking the piss or is an expat-“educated” Afghani.
Then again,,,he could be a very progressive progressive – nah,,,that’s to kind 🙂

  9. Dminor Says:

He probably is taking the piss…I think. I’ve now read his other revies at Amazon; took a few before I was convinced he doesn’t like Lefties. Seems he’s an expat from France or Belgium and his English still isn’t the best, not just obscuring his meaning sometimes, but once or twice completely turning it around. This was the only review which might have been sarcastic.

O/T but I didnt know where else to put this

Bolt just beat you by a few minutes 🙂
      Great minds!

Oh well, at least I’m in good company.

Well, SAY something...
